🎨 Creative Ability Test (CAT) – Sample Questions

The CAT section focuses on assessing creativity, observation, and design skills:

  1. Futuristic Design: Visualize and sketch a household appliance (e.g., refrigerator, washing machine) as it might appear in the year 2050. Use colors to enhance your design.

  2. Shape Composition: Using only geometric shapes (circle, square, triangle), create a composition representing a musical concert. Provide a brief explanation of your design choices.

  3. Sequential Art: Illustrate a four-panel comic strip depicting the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. Ensure clarity in each stage of the metamorphosis.

  4. Poster Design: Design a poster promoting environmental conservation with the theme "Save Our Planet." Incorporate relevant imagery and a compelling slogan.

  5. Product Illustration: Sketch a new design for a school backpack that incorporates sustainable materials and ergonomic features. Label key components and materials used.

Lines and Emotions

Lines have been used by artists and designers to convey mood since the first drawings in cave walls.  Through repeated use, certain patterns and lines have gained universally recognized meanings. These were documented in Landscape Architecture, by John Ormsbee Simonds, who put together a diagram of 48 Mood Lines.  Despite the fact that mood lines are ubiquitous in art and design, there are few references or resources on them as a subject. For this reason, we’ve put together this article, where we’ve taken each mood line and shown it in use. Hopefully you’ll find this helpful in understanding the various mood lines and seeing how you can use them in your own designs.
